Mahina

Mahina means “moon” in Hawaiian.

The moon waxes and wanes,
moving through one cycle after another.

The seasons, plants,
and all of nature follow their own rhythms.

And we, too, are part of nature.

Hui Lōkahi o ka Mahina is an online circle where we explore how to live in harmony with nature and reconnect with our true selves.

Together, we follow the phases of the moon and the rhythms of nature, learning about traditional calendars and ancient wisdom along the way.

And since we’re here, why not add a little magic? 🤎

Have you ever felt this way in the midst of everyday life?

A Grimoire That Grows Every Month

Mahina Oracle

A grimoire traditionally refers to a book containing magical knowledge, spells, and other occult teachings.

At Mahina Oracle, we take the idea a little further.

Your grimoire is your own personal book of knowledge, where you record what you learn, discover, and come to understand in your own words.

Each month, you’ll receive in-depth grimoire pages in two formats:

A completed version, ready to enjoy and use.
A version you can fill in, color, and personalize yourself.

Print the completed pages and add them to your growing grimoire.

Or add your own illustrations, colors, reflections, and discoveries to make each page uniquely yours.

The pages are designed for A4 printing, allowing you to gradually build a personal collection, one page at a time.

Space is provided along the edge for binding the pages in a folder.

For detailed instructions on printing and binding, please see How to Use Your Grimoire.

Mahina Oracle will also publish reference articles on the topics covered in each series.

As you read, explore further, and add your own thoughts and discoveries, your grimoire will become a reflection of your personal journey🤎

Kaulana Mahina
Our First Journey: Kaulana Mahina

Kaulana Mahina

Our first grimoire series explores Kaulana Mahina, the traditional Hawaiian lunar calendar.

More than a record of the moon’s phases, Kaulana Mahina reflects traditional Hawaiian knowledge of observing the moon, changes in nature, and their relationship to everyday life.

There are several layers to understanding this lunar calendar.

One of them is Anahulu, which divides a lunar month into three periods of approximately ten days each.

Within these periods are the pō mahina — the named lunar days.

Each pō mahina has its own name, and these days are connected not only to the appearance of the moon but also to knowledge relating to nature, the ocean, fishing, plants, and daily life.

When you explore each pō mahina, you’ll discover that they are far more than simply a list of lunar day names.

They offer a fascinating window into the knowledge that Hawaiians developed through generations of observing nature and living in relationship with the moon.

In Hui Lōkahi o ka Mahina, we’ll explore these teachings step by step:

We’ll take our time, deepen our understanding, and build our knowledge one page at a time.
